Although he still has three months left on his contract, sources said he's not expected back on the air after Monday."

Here are my picks for the dumbest "turkey" moments in Radio during 2009. SIRIUS XM CEO Touts Cash Flow, Defends High-Priced Talent

Yesterday, SIRIUS XM Radio CEO Mel Karmazin spent some time speaking to Neil Cavuto from Fox News. According to a recap by Bandon Matthews at seekingalpha.com, "Karmazin reiterated his position that Sirius XM is now a cash flow growth story as opposed to a subscriber growth story...[and]...will enable the company to pay down debt, buy back shares of its stock and make acquisitions." (Howard Stern, Photo: SIRIUS XM Radio)

During the interview, Karamzin said he was not interested in any other job offers now and also defended highly-paid content like Howard Stern, denying Stern was "overpriced". Stern originally went to SIRIUS Satellite Radio for $500 million dollars over 5 years prior to the SIRIUS XM merger.

Radio: Fluff on AM, Pornographic Talk on FM?

While I was bouncing around the Internet and reading various articles and blogs about Radio, I came across this email to DesMoinesRegister.com from Sam Ryan who says he was listening to the memorial service for the Ft. Hood soldiers and then flipped around the dial. He writes:

"I checked other stations as I listened -- to hear a flaming 50,000-watt, hate-radio station broadcasting a recovering OxyContin addict laughing raucously as he blamed our president for this tragedy. The listeners of these stations are eased into a day of hate by fluff on the AM station and pornographic talk and ribald songs on the FM stations."

How does this jive with your opinion of the current state of traditional Radio? Feel free to leave a comment below.

Ugandan Radio to Soon Ban Ads by Witch Doctors

Am I really reading this? I blink my eyes. Yes, apparently I am. From screenafrica.com: "Ugandan witch-doctors have used radio up to now to advertise their healing powers. However, this could soon be a thing of the past. The government's ethics minister, James Buturo, has said that radio stations are contravening the 1957 Witchcraft Act and '...are promoting witchcraft-related activities to the detriment of Uganda's integrity.'"

Witchcraft remains widespread in Uganda and the government wants to stamp out the promotion of it. Looks like Radio revenues will take it in the shorts again - but this time not from the ongoing recession.

Trick or Treaters Find Radio Host Dead

It happened in New Zealand, according to a short article at smh.com.au. Apparently, the Halloween revelers went to talkback radio personality Tim Bickerstaff's home.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports: "The teenagers saw the 67-year-old diabetic through a window on Saturday...[and]...when their door knocking failed to rouse him they entered the house and set off his medic alert bracelet."

Bickerstaff's death was attributed to a massive heart attack. "Bickerstaff became known as an outspoken radio host and sports critic during 40 years on the airwaves," says smh.com.au.
