Donnie Simpson Does Last Radio Show on WPGC-FM
According to Sabrina S. at gather.com, "He is 55 years old now and the station says that his taste in music is the reason for the ratings to be down the toilet. The station is apparently looking for someone with more creativity that can attract a younger audience."
ABC 7 has a video report on Simpson's last show which you can view at this page at www.wjla.com.

Would Howard Stern Go Back to Clear Channel Radio?
There's a conversation bubbling up in the media about the possibility that Clear Channel Radio might be interested in talking to Howard Stern. Stern will be clear of his current SIRIUS XM Radio contract at the end of this year. (Howard Stern, Photo: SIRIUS Satellite Radio)
David Hinckley at nydailynews.com writes, "Clear Channel...said Monday it would be interested in talking with Stern, the long-time poster boy for edgy radio content."
Of course, Stern would have to take a leap in self-control when it comes to his language and content since his current gig on Satellite Radio affords him the ability to say anything he likes without regard to F.C.C. rules or regulations. Going back to Clear Channel and terrestrial radio (AM/FM) would mean Stern would once again be subject to regulations and potential fines over offensive or indecent material.
Stern's program aired on several Clear Channel stations until it was yanked in February, 2004. Earlier that year, Stern's behavior got Clear Channel Radio fined $495,000 for indecency.

Pockets of Progressive Talk Radio Still ‘Flourish’
Brian Stelter writes in The New York Times that, "...pockets of progressive talk are flourishing on the radio dial despite Air America's misfortunes."Stelter goes on to say: "Air America's biggest names have been more successful after leaving the network. Rachel Maddow has a prime-time show on MSNBC, and Al Franken, the former comedian most closely associated with Air America, is a senator from Minnesota."
In the article Michael Harrison, editor of Talkers Magazine, says Air America Media's problem was not knowing, "...whether they were a political campaign or a broadcasting company."

Radio Deejay Plays ‘Jump’ for Bridge Jumper
UK deejay, Steve Penk, the morning guy from 96.2FM The Revolution, is being criticized for answering several requests for the song "Jump" by Van Halen "...while police were trying to talk down a suicidal woman on a motorway bridge," reports The Sun.
"Poor taste" said one representative from a mental health charity; Lack of compassion" said some good Samaritans; "Irresponsible" another listener chimed in.

‘Internet’ Radio Will Eventually Become Just ‘Radio’
One day soon, the distinction between "Internet" radio, "traditional radio", "satellite radio", etc. will blur to the point where people will just have and use "radio" again. We won't need another adjective to describe what kind of "radio" it is because it won't matter. The technology will become so seamless we will stop thinking about the process and just enjoy the results. We are closer.
"Thanks to the popularity of the iPhone and other smartphones, listenership has quadrupled since 2008 at Pandora, the free online radio service he founded," writes Jefferson Graham at USA TODAY.
But, what's really news is Ford will feature a Pandora app in the company's Sync system, Sony is putting Pandora into its new web clock radio, Dash, and Samsung along with other TV makers will be including Pandora in upcoming TVs.
Graham writes, "After years of struggle to find an audience, Internet radio is finally coming of age as it expands to cellphones, TVs and other devices."

Radio Listener Complains About ‘Boner Ads’
This is a very amusing email sent to the morning team, Armstrong & Getty, at KSTE Talk 650.A listener wrote in to say she records the program each day and listens later while doing chores around the house. "But," she writes, "...I'm turning off Talk 650 until you get rid of those boner ads."
She goes on to say: "After about 7 PM when Talk 650 turns down their power, KFI in Los Angeles comes in clearer,640. Do you know how many boner ads KFI has? Zero."
The email, some of it not really re-printable here, also adds: "I'm turning off Talk 650 and once a week I'll check back in to see if your station is really so crass, classless, and desperate that it really needs to advertise boner ads."
Read It: Here's the full email from "Katie".
Armstrong & Getty also air on KNEW-AM/San Francisco. You can listen live at www.kste.com.

Internet Radio Gets Boost at Consumer Electronics Show
Pioneer "...announced that its new top-end car-audio and satnav system would - among many other features - include support for Pandora Radio," writes Rik Myslewski from Las Vegas for The Register. "There's one major hitch with the Pandora support in the new AVIC-X920BT in-dash AV receiver, however: you need an iPhone to make it work," says Myslewski.
As reported yesterday, the sleek touchscreen-oriented Sensia Internet radio comes with a radio-frequency remote control and includes a Wi-Fi adapter to connect with Internet radio stations as well as a conventional FM tuner.
