Tribune Co. CEO Randy Michaels has issued a list of 119 words and phrases which should never be spoken on WGN-AM/Chicago by anchors or reporters.
"WGN news director Charlie Meyerson, good soldier that he is, passed on what he identified as Michaels' 'list of forbidden "newsspeak" words and phrases' in a memo to his staff Monday, with the explicit warning: 'Don't say them on WGN,' according to Robert Feder's blog.
Included on the list: "Alleged", area residents", "campaign trail", "diva", "incarcerated", "perfect storm", "reportedly", "untimely death", and "you folks".
Some of broadcasting's biggest names showed up for the Golden Mike Award Monday night at the Plaza Hotel in New York City.
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg was honored in recognition of his "outstanding contribution to the radio and television industries and to the community at large." The event also raised more than $200,000 for broadcasters in need.
The Golden Mike was presented to the Mayor by Phil Lombardo, Chairman of the Broadcasters Foundation and Chief Executive Officer, Citadel Communications; Jim Thompson, President of the Broadcasters Foundation; and John Gambling, emcee for the evening and host of his weekday morning show on WOR NewsTalk Radio 710, New York.
If the public doesn't seem as concerned or sold on Global Warming as of late, don't blame the guy who hacked into computers at a British university and grabbed documents which show scientists have attempted to suppress the full story.
Blame Talk Radio if you're Senator John Kerry.
Jeff Poor writes at Newsbusters.org:
"...it's not ClimateGate - but the messenger who is at fault for growing hesitation to enact a cap-and-trade policy," according to Kerry. He quotes the Senator as saying, "The science 'has been maligned and misinterpreted, and we need to fight back . . . people [need to] stop being moved by these talk show [hosts]'".
Yesterday, CBS Radio unveiled the FAN Sports Network, "...the first four-channel HD Radio digital multicast station in the country."
That's a mouthful.
Basically, the new HD frequencies created by splitting the original frequency of WJFK-FM/The Fan in Washington, D.C. have become a "network" of sports stations in what CBS is calling a "quadcast".
So, if you have an HD radio, you can now hear WJZ-FM from Baltimore on the HD2 frequency, WFAN/New York on HD3, and Philadelphia's WIP on HD4.
Don't live in D.C.? Good news: all these stations are available online.
Listen Now: WIP-AM, WJFK-FM, WJZ-FM, and WFAN-AM.
I used to think the "5 Stages of Death" represented what it's like for most listeners to try and win a radio contest. But, now I'm not sure if that model always applies. It's really not as complicated as that - although you might be surprised to find out how desperate it is. Let me fill you in. (Photo: flipchip.
